its based off a baja, open wheel so you will just need to cut out for shocks and swing arms.
i will post photos tomorrow, i just poped a few off the mold today, but the mold EXPLODED, not exploded, but
not useable again. so just wanted some feedback on interest in hot rod bodies..
it is 800mm long, 250 wide at the rear, giving 10 -15 mm clearance on the wheels, but still enough to cover the
the clutch cover and pull start on a baja..

sounds sweet mate, if you make up a body, and show us what it will look like on a baja and if they look good, i may have to buy one.  ;D

oh, and will this be able to be used for off-road perposes, or on-road only?

cheers!

OK, here is a sneak peak, freshly painted, and 1 still clear
the mold broke yesterday, so the production model will be slightly different, bit of angle on the sides to let it pop off the mold easier, and a bit of slope down on the bonnet form the window to the grill.
please add any comments, its all taken in.
some say it needs back side windows, and i know it look a bit silly with knobby tires but like i say its just a sneak peek.

it can be use for on-road or off-road, and easily mounts on the 5t body mounts.

what do you think ???????

I think it looks cool, if i had a baja i would get one. Its not really suited for my needs tho.
Still an awesome effort dude :good: It might also make a good stock car shell  ;D

Cool body evil air. The quality and straightness is better than those rat rod bodies (like he one I painted recently) on your first effort. I'm impressed and your airbrush work is flawless.

You might have some takers at the sprintcar club. They don't have many options for the Bajas. The slab sides would interest them for aerodynamics  to keep the rear end from stepping out when they get it sideways.

My only comment is that the grill might look a little better with a bit of rake or maybe not so flat by adding a little curve to it.

BTW,What do you make the mould with? Is it like a foam core like a surfboard and you shape it by hand?
You can't buy the 'C' in RC.

you can make molds from many different materials. but for vac forming it needs to be strong so it doesnt implode.
and held together well so it doesnt explode when removing the product. it must be able to with stand heat upto 200c.
fibreglass doesnt like heat and will come apart.
you can make a strong mdf mold, it must be perfect any marks will show in product.
then when you get your first product off the mold you can use that to make an epoxy mold (very expensive, but will last a long time and only needed if you want to make lots of products).
i have made plenty of molds on the past for fibreglass casting and plastic pour molding, but im new to vacuum forming
and have learnt a lot in the past few weeks.

email me if you have more questions

hey there.
i have given my test basher body 1 hell of a bash,
its seems to handle the abuse well.untill i bashed it around a BMX track last weekend and nose dived it a few time, it did end up smashing the front grill, after some BIG hits. as for the roof, i have cut out a square section in the roof for easy starting and stopping, it is also good as you can lower the body so your roll cage comes out the top of the body, helping for support when its on the roof, and the new shape has a recessed section in the roof to make this cut out easyer.
and yes the new shape has a sloped down bonnet, and heaps better grill.
i have just been a bit bizzy lately and have put it on the back burner.
but next week i will be back into it so hope to have a few popped out soon, and will post pics and let you know where to buy from and a price.
my basher looks great painted all black, will post pics soon

here is a bit of an update on the Phat Rod baja body
found a place that will form them in 3mm lexan cheaper than the last place,
so the price will come down under $200..

here is a link to the new look :

http://s790.photobucket.com/albums/yy185/evilair-photo/new%20baja%20PHAT%20ROD%20body/

still doing a few tweaks to the mold, like the window line, will now follow the bonnet slope,
then once im happy with the look we will get to making an epoxy mold for production run..

will keep you posted
